Sun King Targets Commercial Solar Market With New 30kW PowerHub Systems

Kenyan households, schools, hospitals and businesses can access higher-capacity solar installations as the company expands its inverter portfolio and flexible payment options.
Sun King has expanded its solar inverter business in Kenya with new PowerHub systems capable of delivering up to 30 kilowatts (kW), extending its offering to larger homes, commercial buildings, schools and healthcare facilities.
The expanded range, launched in Nairobi on October 8, 2026, increases the company's capacity to serve customers whose electricity needs go beyond basic household lighting and smaller solar home systems.
The new offering covers inverter capacities from 2.2kW to 30kW, with configurations that can combine solar panels, inverters and battery storage to meet different power requirements.
Sun King said the systems are designed to support appliances such as washing machines, microwaves, water pumps, ovens and heaters, while helping customers maintain electricity supply during interruptions to the national grid.
The expansion also allows customers to increase their power capacity over time by connecting multiple inverters in parallel, reducing the need to replace existing equipment when their energy requirements rise.
Atta Arome, Sun King's Product Head for Solar Inverter Systems, said the company was extending its reach from smaller household installations to facilities requiring substantially more electricity.
The company said its higher-capacity systems could power entire buildings, including offices and schools, as it seeks to serve residential, commercial and institutional customers.
New systems address different power needs
The PowerHub Pro offers 5kW of inverter capacity, a 5-kilowatt-hour battery and approximately 2.7kW of solar capacity. The configuration is designed to run a range of common household appliances.
The PowerHub Max provides 10kW of inverter capacity and supports up to four batteries, delivering as much as 20kWh of stored electricity. Sun King says the batteries have an anticipated lifespan of 10 years under typical daily use.
At the larger end of the portfolio, the new systems offer inverter capacities of between 15kW and 30kW, battery storage of 15kWh to 120kWh, and solar capacity of up to 48kW.
These installations are intended for businesses and institutions with higher energy demands, including healthcare facilities, educational establishments and light industrial operations.
The ability to connect systems in parallel also gives customers room to expand. A household could begin with a smaller installation and add capacity as it acquires more appliances, while a growing business could increase its power supply without replacing the entire system.
Reliability for businesses and healthcare facilities
Sun King Country Business Leader Elisha Omedo Adie said the expanded range was about enabling customers to continue their activities when electricity from the grid becomes unavailable.
He cited Sienna Family Care Centre in Njiru, Nairobi, where power outages had previously disrupted the clinic's operations, including the management of emergency cases at night.
Adie said PowerHub installations now help the facility maintain lighting, essential diagnostic equipment and cold storage during outages.
The experience highlights the importance of backup electricity in healthcare facilities, where power interruptions can affect essential services and the handling of temperature-sensitive supplies.
For businesses, the company said reliable solar power could reduce interruptions to daily operations, help protect working hours and keep equipment running when grid electricity fails.
Sun King is also seeking to serve public institutions and development programmes. Adie cited a school electrification initiative in Malawi targeting 5,000 primary schools by 2030.
Monthly payment options available
Financing is central to Sun King's strategy for reaching customers who may not be able to pay the full cost of a solar installation upfront.
According to the company's launch information, the PowerHub range is available through its nationwide agent network, with monthly payments starting at KSh15,500 and a down payment of KSh22,600.
The company said its offering includes system design, installation, warranty coverage and after-sales support, allowing customers to deal directly with Sun King throughout the installation and service process.
Veronica Mugwanja, Solar Inverter Business Manager for PayGo at Sun King, said the expanded portfolio would allow customers to remain with the company as their electricity needs changed.
Customers who initially purchased solar lanterns or home systems can move to inverter installations as they acquire larger homes, establish businesses or require electricity for schools and community facilities.
Mugwanja said solar installations could also provide savings compared with spending on grid electricity and fuel for petrol or diesel generators. Battery storage provides electricity when solar generation is insufficient or the grid supply is interrupted.
The company said its support network operates across Kenya's counties, providing customers with access to installation and after-sales services.
Building on Kenya operations
Sun King has operated in Kenya since 2007, beginning with solar lanterns and smaller home systems before expanding into higher-capacity inverters.
The company says one in five Kenyans has access to its solar products, while its operations across Africa account for more than 330,000 solar products installed each month.
Its business model combines product development, financing, installation and customer support through a network of local agents.
Catherine Mudachi, Sun King's Vice President of Marketing, said the expanded PowerHub range would give more households and businesses access to solar energy supported by professional installation and ongoing service.
The launch marks a further extension of the company's offering into a market segment that includes larger residential properties, commercial premises and institutions with greater electricity requirements.
The full PowerHub inverter range is now available through Sun King's agent network across Kenya. Customers can also attend demonstrations organised by the company to assess the systems and discuss their requirements with trained agents.
