Pretium has launched a standalone app on the Google Play Store, designed to enhance the usability of digital assets in everyday transactions.
The app allows users to shop, dine, and send money using their cryptocurrency holdings without the need for peer-to-peer (P2P) exchanges. Pretium aims to integrate digital assets into daily life seamlessly.
The app addresses a common challenge faced by many cryptocurrency users: the difficulty of using digital assets for everyday expenses.
Converting crypto for purchases often involves complicated and time-consuming P2P exchanges. Pretium simplifies this process by enabling direct payments with digital assets, eliminating the need for intermediary conversions.
Pretium facilitates payments at supermarkets, grocery stores, and restaurants using Mento decentralized stablecoins such as cKES and cUSD. Transactions are automatically settled in local currencies, streamlining the process for both merchants and consumers.
Key features include the ability to send money to mobile networks or bank accounts, make cross-border payments, and use digital assets as a hedge against inflation while retaining spending flexibility.
Currently available in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, and Malawi, Pretium aims to expand further. In Kenya, where over six million people hold cryptocurrencies, Pretium removes the P2P exchange hassle, making it easier for users to utilize their digital assets for daily purchases.
Derrick Bundi, CEO of Pretium, emphasizes the app’s role in advancing payment infrastructure. Pretium bridges the gap between digital assets and traditional payment systems, envisioning a future where cryptocurrencies are integral to everyday commerce.
To start using Pretium, users can download the app from the Google Play Store, create a wallet, fund it with supported assets or local currencies, and begin making seamless transactions.
