Flutterwave Founder and Chief Executive Officer Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola has been named among Fintech Magazine’s Top 100 Fintech Leaders, recognising his role in expanding digital payments, financial infrastructure and cross-border commerce.

Agboola joins a global group of executives recognised for shaping the development of financial technology, including Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse, Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire, Block CEO Jack Dorsey, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong and Stripe co-founder and CEO Patrick Collison.

The Fintech Magazine ranking assesses leaders across areas including organisational scale and market impact, governance and responsibility, professional recognition and industry influence.

The recognition comes as Flutterwave continues to broaden its operations beyond payments processing into a wider financial infrastructure platform serving consumers, businesses and enterprises across Africa and international markets.

Under Agboola's leadership, the company has expanded its payments footprint, strengthened cross-border payment capabilities and entered new areas of financial services.

In 2026, Flutterwave secured a Nigerian Microfinance Bank licence, representing a major step in the company's expansion into banking and financial services. The licence allows the company to hold funds and deposits directly in Nigeria and provides a foundation for expanding business accounts, payments, payouts and treasury services.

Flutterwave has also strengthened its financial infrastructure through the acquisition of Mono, an open banking platform.

The deal expands the company's access to financial data and open banking infrastructure, complementing its payments and financial services operations.

The company is also developing stablecoin-powered solutions and multicurrency products aimed at facilitating cross-border transactions. The products are intended to enable individuals and businesses to hold, receive and move money across currencies more efficiently.

The scale of Flutterwave's operations was further highlighted earlier this year when the company surpassed $50 billion in total transaction value across more than one billion transactions.

Flutterwave's valuation subsequently rose to more than $3.2 billion following strategic investments from global stablecoin companies Ripple and Circle. The investments have supported the company's efforts to expand cross-border payment infrastructure across Africa.

Commenting on the leaders featured in the Top 100 list, Fintech Magazine CEO Glen White said their work was transforming the industry and driving financial inclusion through innovation across products, platforms and customer experiences.

“As we move deeper into an era defined by AI, real-time payments and digital-first banking, these leaders offer a blueprint for sustainable growth and lasting impact,” White said.

Beyond Flutterwave, Agboola has continued to participate in Africa's technology and startup ecosystem as an investor and mentor.

Through Resilience17 (R17), his venture studio and early-stage investment platform, he supports emerging founders developing high-growth companies across the continent.

Agboola's inclusion in the Top 100 list comes as African fintech companies increasingly seek to build financial infrastructure capable of connecting local economies with global markets, while addressing longstanding challenges around payments, access to financial services and cross-border commerce.
