KFC is bringing its Kentucky Town experience to Kenya for the first time, blending local food, fashion, music and entertainment in a month-long campaign aimed at celebrating Kenyan creativity and giving customers a fresh way to experience the fast-food brand.
Dubbed Kentucky Town 254, the initiative will run from October 20 to November 15, 2026, marking the platform’s debut in East Africa.
It combines a limited-time menu inspired by familiar Kenyan flavours, an exclusive clothing collection created in partnership with Nairobi-based fashion house home_254, and four rotating pop-up events across the capital.
The campaign reflects KFC’s efforts to connect with local consumers through experiences that extend beyond its restaurants, drawing on Kenya’s food culture, creative industry and appetite for interactive entertainment.
“We didn’t want to bring Kentucky Town to Kenya and simply put a Kenyan name on it. We wanted Kenya to have a say in what Kentucky Town becomes,” said Dorothy Muthoni, Chief Marketing Officer at Kuku Foods East Africa, KFC’s franchisee in Kenya.
“That means food that tastes familiar, fashion that feels like us, and an experience that gives people a reason to come together.”
Kenyan flavours on the menu
Food remains central to the Kentucky Town 254 experience, with KFC introducing seven limited-time items that reinterpret familiar Kenyan snacks and flavours through its menu.
The offering includes The Colonel’s Mandazi Burger, The Colonel’s Mandazi Pops, the Kentucky Choma Burger, Samosa Crunch, Catch These Masala Fries, Birthday Cake Krusher and One in a Melon Krusher.
The menu draws inspiration from popular local favourites, including mandazi, samosas, masala-seasoned fries and choma, combining familiar tastes with KFC’s established fast-food format.
The limited-time menu will be available from October 20 at selected KFC restaurants, giving customers an opportunity to sample the new items throughout the campaign.
The approach also positions food as an entry point into a broader cultural experience, with customers encouraged to explore the accompanying fashion, music and interactive activities at the pop-ups.
Four pop-ups planned across Nairobi
Beyond its restaurants, Kentucky Town 254 will bring the campaign to four Nairobi shopping malls over consecutive weekends, creating spaces where customers can engage with the brand through entertainment, games, music and merchandise.
The first pop-up will run at The Junction Mall’s ground-floor courtyard from October 23 to 25. The experience will then move to Galleria Shopping Mall, in the parking area next to KFC, from October 30 to November 1.
The Hub Karen’s Piazza will host the third stop from November 6 to 8, before the campaign concludes at Garden City Mall’s main entrance from November 13 to 15.
Customers who purchase a Kentucky Town meal at a participating KFC restaurant can use their receipt to access any of the pop-up events.
Activities will include the Wrap the Beat dance challenge, virtual reality gaming, a basketball hoop challenge and a photo booth. Visitors will also have the opportunity to have their caricatures drawn and take them home.
The first 100 visitors to the opening pop-up on October 23 will receive a complimentary Samosa Crunch.
The mix of activities is designed to make the campaign an interactive outing, combining food with opportunities for socialising, entertainment and participation in challenges.
Kenyan fashion takes centre stage
Fashion is another major component of the campaign, with KFC partnering with home_254 to develop an exclusive, limited-edition merchandise collection.
The Nairobi-based fashion and design house, known for its locally produced creations, has developed a range that includes crop tops, T-shirts, varsity jackets, sweatshirts, cosy sweatpants, jorts, shrugs and puffer jackets.
The collection will be available at the pop-up merchandise shop, which will also feature a styling corner and photo spot where visitors can try on pieces and photograph their looks.
According to Muthoni, the merchandise is one of the defining features of the Kentucky Town experience, bringing Kenyan fashion and design into a campaign traditionally associated with food and entertainment.
Job Brian Jura, founder of home_254, said the collaboration reflects the brand’s commitment to local production and creative expression.
“Everything is designed and made in Kenya and hand-printed locally, so a Kentucky Town piece carries a little bit of home long after the campaign ends,” said Jura.
“That is what the brand stands for, wearable art that lets people carry Kenyan creativity and pride with them.”
The partnership also provides a platform for a Kenyan fashion brand to reach audiences through KFC’s restaurant network and promotional activities, connecting local design with a major consumer brand.
Creators to amplify the experience
Kenyan creators and influencers, including Kendi Q, Comedian Mwirigi and Wangari Kairu, will support the campaign through social media content and appearances at the pop-up events.
Their involvement will help showcase the food, clothing and entertainment on offer, while extending the experience to audiences who may engage with the campaign online before visiting a participating restaurant or pop-up.
The use of local creators forms part of the campaign’s broader emphasis on making the experience relevant to Kenyan consumers through familiar personalities, cultural references and locally developed products.
Kenya becomes latest Kentucky Town market
Kentucky Town originated in South Africa and has previously been rolled out in Namibia and Mauritius. The Kenyan edition marks its first entry into East Africa.
Kenya is KFC’s second-largest African market after South Africa, with 48 franchise-owned restaurants, making it a significant market for the brand’s regional growth and consumer engagement efforts.
Hloni Mohope, Chief Marketing Officer at KFC Africa, said the platform is intended to introduce the brand to new audiences through entertainment, exclusive merchandise and food innovations.
“Kentucky Town is all about introducing KFC to new audiences with entertainment, fun, exclusive experiences and merch, and a menu that takes the Original Recipe to new and exciting places,” said Mohope.
“We know Kenyans love KFC, and this is a wonderful opportunity to thank them for their support. Twende funky!”
Running until November 15, Kentucky Town 254 will offer customers several opportunities to engage with the campaign, whether through the limited-time menu, the locally produced fashion collection or the weekend pop-ups.
For KFC, the Kenyan rollout represents an expansion of a marketing platform that combines food with cultural experiences. For its local partners, the collaboration offers a chance to bring Kenyan flavours, fashion and creative talent to a wider consumer audience.
